Is Psoriasis UVB Treatment Really An Effective Cure?

It was something that played on my mind a while back, when I discovered that the strange rashes I had found on my body was psoriasis. Up until then, ‘psoriasis’ was just a word that meant very little to me. It was just some disease that happened to other people.

If I was shocked when I was diagnosed with psoriasis, I was doubly shocked when the doctor told me that the disease was incurable. After seeing a dermatologist, it was suggested the best way to treat my psoriasis was through UVB therapy.

How Do Psoriasis UVB Treatments Work?

UVB therapy is usually used when either creams didn’t work, or so much skin is covered by psoriasis that using creams becomes impractical. You stand in a light booth at a clinic, and your skin is exposed to UVB rays.

This exposure to UVB rays is supposed to slow down the accelerated rate of skin cell production, which is the actual cause of psoriasis. You will need to have these UVB therapy sessions up to 5 times a week, for up to 6 weeks.

For me, although I did see definite improvement after my psoriasis UVB treatment course ended, there was one major drawback:

A few weeks after my last session, the psoriasis started to come back!

I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life visiting a clinic several times a week, but I didn’t want to spend it covered in psoriasis either. After doing my own research into psoriasis and its causes, I decided a more holistic approach was necessary.
